From the Bench: SCYC Quartersawn White Oak Presentation Board
From the bench this week: a presentation board for Surf City Yacht Club.
SCYC — Quartersawn White Oak Presentation Board. Twenty by thirty inches, an inch and a quarter thick. Quartersawn white oak from the Sourland Mountains / Hunterdon County — hand-harvested, then felled, milled, shaped, and finished in food-safe oil in the backyard.
Those medullary rays catch the light the way only quartersawn oak does. At the center, a laser-engraved aerial of the Yacht Club on regatta day. Handles and a raised edge so it can work as a serving tray, charcuterie board, table runner, or the Yacht Club piece itself.
Sand, CNC shape on the Onefinity, hand-route the chamfer, then the xTool for the engraving. Same shop rhythm careful steps, wood that earns its keep.
